The Story Behind Lean Shots

We got tired of watching Indian factories struggle with bad advice.

So we started writing the newsletter we wish existed.

Most lean manufacturing content is written for Toyota. Not for a 200-person auto parts unit in Pune. Not for a garment factory in Tiruppur running on thin margins.

It's academic. 50-page whitepapers when you need a 5-minute answer. Written by consultants who've never dealt with a 2 AM breakdown. Advice without scars.

That's why Lean Shots exists.

Every story is from a real Indian factory — Chennai, Pune, Tiruppur, Ahmedabad. Real challenges, real constraints, real results. 5 minutes to read. One framework. One takeaway you can use Monday morning.

Written by people who've run factories. Who know what missed targets and labor strikes feel like. Who've made the mistakes we're helping you avoid.

Free. Every Friday. No upsells disguised as content. Just useful stuff.

Who Writes This

Nimish Dave

Nimish Dave - Founder of Lean Shots

30+ years on Indian shop floors. Started as a production engineer in the early '90s. Worked my way up to President-level roles.

Machine breakdowns at 2 AM. Labor strikes. Supply chain nightmares. A few disasters I still can't talk about.

If manufacturing is a religion, Toyota is God. I've spent three decades studying, implementing, and adapting lean principles for Indian factories — because what works in Nagoya doesn't always work in Nashik.

Why Lean Shots?

Started this in 2025 because I was tired of seeing factory leaders waste time on advice that doesn't work here. Every issue is something I wish someone had told me 15 years ago — when I was making the same mistakes you're probably making now.

Beyond the newsletter:

I run The Idea Smith — a consulting firm that helps Indian SMEs with lean transformation. No theory. No binders. We get on the shop floor and make it happen.

Still learning. Still making mistakes. Still getting my hands dirty. Because the day you stop learning is the day you stop being useful.

What to expect.

Every Friday, 9 AM. A new issue in your inbox. Consistent. Reliable.
5-minute read. One story, one framework, one takeaway.
Real examples. What worked in Indian factories. What didn't.
Actionable. Something you can try Monday morning.
